Blepharoplasty Recovery Timeline – Eyelid Lift or Blepharoplasty recovery varies from person to person. While we can provide an overall eyelid surgery recovery timeline, the length of your recovery period and even what you experience during it will be determined by a number features that suit you best:
- Your age and general well being
- The condition of your skin
- Your body’s proclivity to swell or bruise
- Your pain threshold
- How strictly you adhere to your doctors’ postoperative instructions
- Which sorts of eyelid surgery are performed (upper and/or lower blepharoplasty)
- If you have other procedures scheduled at the same time as your eyelid surgery
Blepharoplasty recovery is quick, but because the surgery would be in the middle of the face, the dressings or any bruising will be visible. Some patients disregard this and continue with their normal lives; however, we believe that exercise is harmful because it delays recovery from bruising and swelling.
Working from home is an option, but bruising of the lower eyelids takes 10 days to settle; bruising of the upper eyelids settles much faster.
Make up can be used to conceal bruising, and we can advise you on cosmetic camouflage. If you are particularly sensitive, you should wait two weeks before reporting to work. During the first week, the stitches are removed.
You should also keep in mind that your vision may be slightly blurred on the first day. This is due in part to the surgery and native anaesthesia used, even if you have a general anaesthetic, but also to the ointment applied in inside eyelid morning and night, which does obscure vision to some extent.
Surgery to the lower rather than the upper eyelid can occasionally result in swelling that is bothersome for a longer period of time. Swelling of tissues occurs after surgery and is known as chemosis when it extends under the conjunctiva and onto the eyeball.
It causes the eye to appear watery, and this can take several weeks to resolve. Furthermore, any bruising beneath the conjunctiva causes bright red haemorrhages. Chemosis and haemorrhages have no validity other than their appearance; it does settle eventually.
Swelling can also cause the lower eyelid to pull away from the eyeball, resulting in an ectropion, which is annoying but usually resolves on its own within a few days or weeks.
The recovery time after eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, varies widely from patient to patient. The healing process will vary depending on the techniques used in your specific procedure. Another factor influencing recovery time is how well you care for yourself after surgery.
Normal routines can usually be resumed after a few days, but strenuous activities should be avoided for at least a few weeks. You will be given proper post operative guidance following the procedure.
During the first three days, keep your head elevated and apply cold eye compresses frequently.
For the first four weeks after surgery, use the prescribed deodorant and ointment every hour at night.
Strenuous exercise regimens should be avoided for at least four weeks, though lighter medications can begin after two or three weeks.
Any swelling or bruising should go away after 7 to 10 days. However, in order for this to be true, you must be meticulous about applying snow to the treatment area for the first three days following the procedure.
If ice is not applied frequently, swelling and bruising may take up to 3 weeks to go away. While improvements can be seen after swelling and bruising subside, the final results may take 3 to 6 months to become apparent.
What Is the Average Recovery Time for Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty, often known as eyelid surgery, is a common cosmetic procedure intended to enhance the appearance of the eyelids. Many people thinking about having this procedure question how long it would take to recuperate and when they may expect to see the benefits.
Depending on the patient and the complexity of the treatment, blepharoplasty recovery times can vary. In general, swelling, bruising, and some discomfort are to be expected in the first few days after surgery. Over time, these negative effects progressively disappear.
Patients frequently suffer some tightness or stiffness in their eyelids during the early phases of recovery, which can make blinking and closing the eyes a little difficult. This is only a short-term issue, and it usually goes away within the first week or two.
Within 7 to 10 days following surgery, the majority of patients are able to resume their normal activities, including work and social commitments. To speed up the healing process, it’s crucial to adhere to your surgeon’s post-operative advice, which may include avoiding vigorous activity and heavy lifting for a few weeks.
